Kid Friendly Easy – 1hr Easter DIY

Hand or machine sewing

I made up the creation process as I went and it turned out to look like the backside of an easter bunny with big floppy ears and a poofy tail.

MATERIALS

  • Fluffy fabric for the body (I used an old Sherpa jacket that was going to be donated)
  • Pink fabric for ears (I had pink gauze scraps lying around)
  • Stuffing (I used the rest of the fabric scraps)
  • Optional fabric or ribbon for bow (shown in picture but decided not to use the brown, I went with an old dress tie instead)
  • Thread
  • Needle
  • Stuffing or fabric scraps
  • Scissors

STEPS

  1. Cut Fabric:

(qty. 2) The desired silhouette of the bunny body with the fuzzy fabric.

I used a plate and bowl to trace.

(qty. 2) long triangle/carrot shapes of the body fabric – this will be the ears. Make them as long or short as desired.

(qty. 2) triangle/carrot shapes of the inside ear fabric. Make them just as long as the outside ears but slightly skinnier – this will add dimension and shape to the ears.

(qty.1) large circle/oval of the outside fabric for the tail.

(optional) cut and make a bow to tie around the bunny’s neck.

  1. Pin the right sides of the ear pieces together and sew along the long edges, keeping the short edge open. Turn inside out. Repeat for both ears. Do not stuff – this will keep the ears floppy.

  1. Pin the right sides of the body fabric and sew along the edges but leave a gap at the top for the ears.

  1. Turn the body inside out and stuff.

I used the rest of the jacket for my stuffing.

  1. Pin in ears. Fold over the exposed fabric where we left it open. Sew ears to body.

I hand sewed this in but you can try to use your machine if you can get it under the foot.

  1. Take the tail circle piece and with a needle and thread, make long running stitches, then pull the thread to bunch the tail up to make a ball.
